Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is a world renown musician, and is primarily know for his melodic renditions of Qawwali, a devotional music of the Sufis. In addition to Qawwali, he also sings Ghazals (a semi-classical) form of Indian music.
Rahat Khan hails from a strong musical family. He is the nephew of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan under whom he studied the art of classical music. Under the tutelage of his uncle, his first public performance was at the age of just eleven.
This musical maestro is not only well known in the Indian music circuit, but he also in the western arena. He has performed a supporting musical role with his uncle, Nusrat Khan, alongside Hollywood musician, Eddie Vedder, of the American rock band, Pearl Jam. Rahat Khan contributed to the soundtrack of the 1995 Hollywood film Dead Man Walking.
In 2002, he worked on the soundtrack of Four Feathers in collaboration with the American composer of orchestral and film music, James Horner.
Also in 2002, Rahat was a guest musician with The Derek Trucks Band on the song 'Maki Madni' for Trucks album, Joyful Noise.
More recently, his vocals were featured on the soundtrack of Mel Gibson's Apocalypto.
He has recently worked in indian films such as Billu Barber with song Jahoon Kahan, King is Singh with Teri Ore, and on Pakistani nationalistic songs such Dharti Dharti and Hum Pakistan.
Rahat has won the Sahara Award in 2004 for his hit song 'Mann Ki Lagan' from the film 'Paap', directed by Mahesh Bhatt. He was also nominated in the Film Fare Awards 2006 and Iifa Awards 2006 for his hit song 'Jiyya Dhadak Dhadak Jaye' from the film 'Kalyug', also directed by Mahesh Bhatt.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s perfomance will be an extraordinay collection of music including a tribute to Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, devotional Sufi renditions, Qawwalis and his latest Bollywood Hits.
